My Story

I’ve been an employee, an employer, and an entrepreneur.

My CV includes multinationals, education institutions: primary and post-secondary, and private companies, and I have owned my own small business. During this journey, I have worked for renegade CEOs and cautious directors, in unionized and non-unionized environments, and in private and public sectors. I like to think I have an inclusive overview of most business environments.

Over the years my heterogeneous clients have ranged in size, have been start-ups, been in business for decades, and have spanned a number of industries. I have accrued substantial knowledge of the employee experience within diverse organizations, as well as non-human resource business experience. My background gives me a reliable ability to grasp the big picture, respect cultural differences, appreciate different business needs, identify problems and opportunities, and effectively implement solutions.

Along the way it was clear that I like to build things, whether it’s my latest home DIY project, developing job descriptions, or maximizing an HRIS (human resource information system). I like to give my clients something tangible rather than concepts, tangibles that will improve the state of their organization.

Highly engaged, highly productive people are crucial to a business’s success and as a result, HR is becoming more central to business strategy. To paraphrase Dr. Rosabeth Kanter, there are three M’s the most engaged people feel:

  1. Membership: They feel like they belong.

  2. Mastery: They feel comfortable and confident in their roles.

  3. Meaning: They know what they do affects others in the organization/business – they acknowledge they impact how the company runs.
